注意事项： Students can use a paper dictionary, one provided by the person (proctor) in charge of the testing – not ones that the students themselves bring. Based on the ESL Placement Test results, these students are then placed in either ENGL 1110 or ENGL 1020.

DIRECTIONS

You will write an essay of at least 250 words. (Please keep your essay between 250 and 350 words total.) Your essay must contain an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.

Take time to plan your writing. You may use scrap paper. Allow time at the end of the period for proofreading. You have two hours. You may use a dictionary.

Write your essay in a blue book. When you are finished, place this paper inside the blue book and turn them both in.

*Remember that this is a test of your ability to write in English, with correct grammar, solid sentences, and developed paragraphs. It is important that you express your ideas clearly and that you organize and support them appropriately, given the topic, audience, and purpose. The results of this exam will determine which English class(es) you will be required to take at UT.

Some people think that it is a good idea for college students to have jobs while they are studying, and others think that it might affect their studies negatively. Write an essay in which you explain your opinion on this subject, providing at least three reasons in support of your opinion. Explain your ideas in detail.
